The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette is one of the most sought after make-up palettes of all time – it’s beautiful; but its £41 (on BeautyBay).
What if I told you that you could get a palette of £8 (even £6.40 if you have student discount), from a local drugstore, with an additional 18 shades? A 32 shade eyeshadow palette with those iconic pink, orange and nude shades for £8.
You’d tell me I was lying, right? Well, I’m not.
Allow me to introduce you to the Make Up Revolution Flawless 3 palette. Although it’s sold out online, I picked this up at my local Superdrug for £6.40. Allow me to let you into a secret, you get 20% student discount with your NUS card if you have a Superdrug Beauty Card – I didn’t know this but of course I snapped up the chance!
Firstly look at this gorgeous iridescent packaging! Then you open it up and the palette has a stunning, on-trend rose gold mirrored lid.
Now, excuse the fact that my ABH Modern Renaissance palette is… well-used; but look at the similarities in the shades. I know that Make Up Revolution have had some stick recently for their dupes being straight up rip-offs (see Kat Von D’s rant on her YouTube Channel after they copied the Shade and Light palette), but I don’t think that this is a rip off of the original ABH palette. Yes the shades are similar, possibly even inspired by the Modern Renaissance palette, but the additional shades, palette placement, packaging is completely original, therefore it totally has my approval.
I’ve done my best to match each shade of the Modern Renaissance palette to its correlating shade in the Flawless 3 palette – of course they’re not exact; but some of them are almost identical. The ABH shade colour (top), followed by the correlating Flawless 3 shade colour (bottom) will be found on each image by hovering over it.
This Flawless 3 palette is so versatile and perfect for a natural look, as well as that pop of colour for spring, or a totally glam night out look. There’s a mixture of shimmer (7) and mattes (25) which is much more diverse than the ABH palette with just two shimmers and 12 mattes. The one thing that I wish the Flawless 3 palette had is a killer blending brush like the one that comes with the ABH palette, but I suppose I can’t really ask for that much from a £8 palette.
I would definitely recommend this palette to anyone thinking of buying the ABH palette as it would allow you to test out some looks and see if you like the colours before splashing out and going high-end. The Flawless 3 doesn’t have as great of a colour pay off at first swatch, but is buildable, blendable and beautiful, so it gets a 10/10 for me.
It’s out of stock online at the minute, but you can get Superdrug to notify you when it’s back in stock here, or just check your local store.
