Following the horrific terror attack in Manchester in May, the REBEL team weren’t just going to sit around – Lee and Rich hatched the #WeStandTogether Festival plan and organised an entire festival in two and a half weeks. There was so much going on around Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre, from live music stages, to a Yogathon, to stalls, bars, funfairs, raffles and the Barking Madchester Charity Dog Walk, with all proceeds from the festival going to the victims of the Manchester Terror Attack.
I put together a little video of my day which you can find at the end of this post, but my day went a bit like this:
10:00 – GabriellaYoga ‘Sunrise Session’ with Manchester Playlist – this was an absolutely beautiful and refreshing way to start my day, indulging in a spot of yoga to the sound of The Stone Roses and Oasis; nothing could have been more fitting! It really woke me up and got me super excited for the rest of the day.
10:30 – Royal Photo Shoot Fun at Hounds – This shoot was set up in honour of the Queen’s birthday, and just so happened to fall on the day of the festival too! We had a little booth set up for the dogs to dress up and get papped for a competition to win some Pawsecco! Daily Dog Dose – check.
1:30 – Emily Jones’ set on the Main Stage – My friend Emily is soon the be releasing her EP ‘A Cut To The Quick’ and she was performing it on the Main Stage in the High Street (how could I miss that?). The previous day Em had visited St. Ann’s Square where the tributes for the victims were laid, and was incredibly moved by it, talking about the visit on stage during her set.
3:00 – Ten Green Bottles – It was time for a much needed refreshment. Unfortunately my dog, Lyla, got attacked by another dog in the street during the day, thankfully she’s okay and unscathed, but it meant that she was a little apprehensive when we went to meet up with Piglet and Elsa, with their owners Annabel, Kelly and Adam – but she did okay and she’s made some new friends!
4:45 – Misovia’s set on the Main Stage – my boyfriend, Jake’s, band Misovia played their set on the Main Stage, so I went to take a couple of snaps of them until the heaven’s opened! Their opening track is eight minutes long, so I could only stay for that before rushing off to the next event!
5:00 – Barking Madchester Walk – Anya had not only organised the photo shoot, but a dog walk too! £2 donation per dog got us £200 raised! Each dog got a bumblebee bandana to wear and a 20 minute walk around the town with 80 other pooches!
The festival continued into Sunday, but I had to work! The festival was so well organised and so quickly set up, I’m surprised the organisers have found time to sleep! So much money has been raised for an incredible cause; I will update with total figure soon! Massive congratulations to everyone involved! #WeStandTogether
