Liz Earle’s botanical-focused skincare saviours have been a staple in my daily routine for the past two years, and their 12-day luxury advent calendar offers the ultimate opportunity to stock up on favourites old and new. It’s the perfect present for superfans of the iconic British brand, but equally a special gift for that friend or family member who is a bit tricky to buy for, or someone just starting to get serious about their skincare.
Beauty advent calendars have skyrocketed in popularity over the last five years, and there are so many to choose from. Not only do they provide the opportunity to stock up on some of the must have makeup and skincare essentials, they also allow you to discover new products across a range of exciting brands. The contents are usually worth at least double the price you pay, meaning you can save money on your stash, or split the products between friends and family over the festive season as stocking fillers as a way to spread the cost further.
And while Christmas may seem a way off yet, advent isn’t, and you wouldn’t want to miss out on unboxing a little slice of luxury each day in December because you forgot to order one, right? Over the next few weeks, I’ll be unboxing some of the best beauty Christmas countdowns for 2023 to help you decide which one to snap up ready for December 1.
I absolutely love Liz Earle’s skincare products as long-term readers of the blog will know, and anyone who has used their products will know they are very much worth the money, so it’s particularly exciting when they’re featured in money-saving hauls, too. The 12-days of Liz Earle beauty advent calendar comes in at £75, but the contents are worth over £170. While it’s available at Boots and LookFantastic at full price, Sephora shoppers can bag it for £63.75 with the code PAYDAY15, while those who buy it directly from Liz Earle can benefit from a number of freebies at the till.
When shoppers add the calendar to their basket on the Liz Earle website, they’ll see some travel sized favourites added at no extra cost. In my case, it was a Skin Repair Light Cream 15ml, Gentle Face Exfoliator 15ml and Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser 30ml, which are worth £22 combined.
The calendar itself is testament to the phrase that great things come in small packages, because this compact calendar is seriously well optimised. The recyclable square box features a festive design against a purple backdrop, and opens up to reveal two layers of botanical beauty to discover. Each numbered box contains a carefully chosen beauty surprise, with a mix of full size and luxury miniatures that will overhaul your skincare routine with some of the brand’s most-loved formulas and best-selling products, helping give you that spa-at-home feeling. .
Suitable for all skin types, some of the products have got a pretty impressive price point, with the Superskin Alt-Retinol Booster being worth £37.50 alone – half the price of the entire calendar – and provides the ideal introduction to retinol-style products with this plant-based alternative.
I was one of the first influencers to try the Cleanse & Glow Transforming Gel Cleanser when it launched in early 2022, so being able to replenish my supply with this full sized offering is a lifesaver. The gel cleanser transforms into a lightweight oil as it’s rubbed between the fingers, melting away pollutants, makeup, excess oil, dirt and SPF as it’s massaged into the skin.
I love to follow it up with the cult-classic Instant Boost Skin Tonic, and this handy sample size is the ideal travel companion and wash bag staple – especially now it’s returned to the original formula. This much-loved toner can be used morning and night, with 90 per cent of its users agreeing that their skin felt more balanced after use.
Other products I can’t wait to get stuck into are the Skin Repair Hydrating Night Cream – another fabulous travel-size staple – and the Warm Cedarwood & Frankincense Hand Cream, which smells so luxurious and elegant.
My only complaint? I wish Liz Earle would do a full 24-day or 25-day beauty advent calendar because they have so many gorgeous products and while these 12 will certainly top up my stash and save my money on my skincare, an even more premium offering featuring their candles, fragrances and more could really give the likes of Jo Malone a run for their money.
