Power colour – what is it and how to find yours?

Up until recently, my wardrobe has remained rather plain, monochrome and quite frankly, boring. I was a firm believer in sticking to what I know, occasionally going bolder for a night out, but I’ve started to branch out, add colour and be a little more adventurous in my everyday style. Developing a power colour can be so beneficial.

I’ve found sticking to a colour palette to be extremely helpful, and you soon find the colours that make you feel amazing. At the minute, I’m really loving mustard accents, but I have a feeling it’s only going to be sticking around for the season. Red, however, is here to stay; a timeless colour that never goes out of fashion.

Red is often associated with sex and seduction, but also with power and confidence. Rocking a bold red lip and red accessories makes me feel super sassy and ready to take on the world.

Bakerboy Hat – Primark – £5

Blouse – TU by Sainsburys – £18

Culottes – Primark – £13

Belt – New Look

Bag – Nasty Gal – £8

Shoes – Primark – £12

Earrings – Emporium at Boots – £7.50

Lipstick – Russian Red by Mac

This dreamy lip print blouse is from Sainsbury’s, which probably isn’t your first choice for finding clothes, than it is for scouting out chocolate fingers or Ben and Jerry’s. I’ve been tucking this into pretty much anything it will tuck into, most favourably my black vinyl mini skirt, but I’ve more recently teamed them up with these polka dot culottes.

Whilst sporting the wide-legged beauties in Primark last week, I discovered they’d been reduced to a fiver. I think steam came out of my ears in envy that I’d only bought them a couple days before. But seriously, bag them if you can. There’s a little fleck of pastel pink running through the dots too, just to make them that little bit different. They are however, a touch too big, so I improvised with the belt.

Let’s talk accessories. These beautiful booties have a low heel and my goodness, they are so comfortable! I will mostly choose comfort over appearance, and these are the best of both worlds – I can even drive in them. These with the bakerboy hat I bagged are an actual match made in heaven.

I am always having a nosey at our, albeit small, jewellery stand at work. These earrings come in red, dusky pink, black and silver. I am currently obsessing over the pink and trying (and failing) to convince myself that I don’t need them (I do, though.)

My bag is a vegan leather beauty from Nasty Gal. It’s an ideal size for my everyday life and I take it to uni most days so I can throw my cameras in there. Wear it over the shoulder or by its quirky square handles. Where you been all my life boo? My only issue with it is that it doesn’t have an inside pocket, which I like in a bag. I don’t want to lose things that I throw in there!

I guess what I’m trying to do with this post is implore you to all go out and find your power colour. The colour that makes you feel yourself when you look in the mirror and keeps you smiling all day. Find your power colour and embrace it. It’ll put a spring in your step just in time for summer.

This is such a nice idea. I definitely need to find my colour. I wear a lot of dark colours and I think adding something bright to my outfits would really make a difference. x

Love this look on you! I definitely need to branch out into more colours. I’m guilty of all black looks most of the time.
