Klay is one of my favourite date night spots, offering some fab student deals like two for one on Tuesdays, student discount and their infamous 4/4/4/4 deal.
This deal gives you four pizzas, four sides, and four drinks for four people for £40 (a tenner each). If that’s not a bargain I don’t know what is.
Independent pizzeria Klay is a cosy little space with a cool, alternative vibe, at the centre of Hanley’s Cultural Quarter. Full of colour, artwork and the smell of authentic, wood-fired pizza, Klay is the perfect hangout spot for a pre-theatre trip, date night or pre-drinks and pizza. Pre-drinks and Pizza is the new Netflix and Chill.
Our Klay Order
We all ordered different pizzas and sides so we could indulge in a little bit of everything.
I went for The Mac Daddy and added maple bacon. I love mac’n’cheese, I love bacon. Match made in heaven. This beasty 12” pizza was smothered in gooey, cheesy homemade mac’n’cheese and syrupy sweet maple bacon and my god was it good. I only actually managed about three or four slices before it defeated me (poor effort on my part) but Klay have takeaway boxes for you to take your leftovers home in.
Anya ordered the Voltaire, which features wilted spinach and sautéed garlic mushrooms. Leah opted for The Stavros which was packed with avocado, feta cheese, red onion, balsamic glaze, rocket and olives – her vegetarian dream. Emily went for the Straight Up Marg margarita, some may call it the boring option, but there’s nothing boring about a classic at Klay.
Side wise, we ordered the Garlic Bread, Olives with hummus, Pizza Nachos with all the toppings, along with a plain order of Nachos for me since I don’t like dip. I know, it’s a sin, I don’t have dip with my nachos, get over it. I (reluctantly) tried my first ever olive, which to my surprise wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
Our table was literally overflowing with food, glorious food. Nobody really knew where to start. We managed to battle our way through most of it. Though, I had to admit defeat when the jeans button needed undoing. We’ve all been there, right?
Domino’s, who? Pizza Express, what? Forget the chains. Get down to Klay to experience real pizza with amazing and accommodating staff in a funky little environment. You’ll never look at pizza the same again.
