Shop Small Staffs: From The Ether custom glitter resin earrings

I’ve often found myself envisaging a piece of jewellery that would go with an outfit, but then been unsuccessful in actually finding it. ‘I just wish I could find some fabulous olive earrings to go with this cardigan’, or, ‘it would be amazing to get some earrings that ties in the colours on this multi-patterned dress’.

Some things are just impossible to find. It’s an accessory dilemma a lot of us face. But whilst many of us would find a sub-par alternative, Liv Day decided to solve the problem and make her own. Alas, From The Ether was born.

About the artist

Liv is a 21-year-old crafter from Stoke-on-Trent, and has recently launched a glitter resin jewellery range on Etsy. There are currently four styles to choose from: two types of stars, rectangle and flower, alongside an array of glitters to bring them to life.

Liv said: “I’ve always loved quirky statement earrings but sometimes struggled to find ones that were exactly my style, so making my own was the perfect solution

“I tried lots of different crafts before I discovered earring making and totally fell in love with it.

“I never thought my craft obsession would be any more than a hobby but when I posted my earrings online I had lots of interest from people so I decided to start selling them!

“It’s always been a dream of mine to have a creative job so it’s been amazing to be able to sell my work. I’ve also always been interested in marketing so it was really fun to design and build my own brand, using aesthetics and colours that I love to express my style and personality through my branding.”

About From The Ether

The name From The Ether comes from the notion that the earrings come ‘from a blissful place above the clouds’.

Inspired by pop culture from the sixties, seventies and eighties, all of the ready-made earrings are named after iconic TV shows or songs from that era.

Liv is dedicated to making From The Ether an inclusive brand, and added: “I’m especially inspired by Bowie, Queen and Elton John and really wanted to make my brand about being for everyone regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality or anything else, hence the line ‘Handcrafted, for everyone’. I’d like to think Bowie would have rocked a pair back in the day!”

Liv recently sent me three pairs of hand crafted earrings to style, and these are the three looks I created:

From The Ether: Olive Flower Power earrings*

These flower shaped earrings are so sixties and would make the perfect festival accessory. I had these ones custom made in glitter number five – a gorgeous olive shade. There are 17 different glitters to choose from, including some with confetti or stars in them!

I’ve been wearing more of this shade of green recently, in the form of this giant balloon sleeved cardigan and Oliver Bonas Wild tee. I struggled to find accessories in these shades online, and having them custom made was the perfect way to get accessories to match a particular look.

From The Ether: Pink Hot Tramp Star earrings*

Many of you will know how much I love Bowie, so when I saw many of Liv’s designs named after his songs, I knew that From The Ether would be right up my street. This fuchsia babes are the Hot Tramp pre-made design, or you could go for the black Space Oddity design, or Starman in white. I’ve paired them with a fuchsia blouse from Sparrowhawk vintage to add a bit of sparkle to my look, which you can read about here. You can also select solid stars if you prefer that look!

From The Ether: Dance Magic Dance Rectangle earrings*

Again, love the name, and Labyrinth is one of my favourite films. These are a great universal design because the confetti has so many colours in it, you could wear them to almost anything. Here, I’ve styled them with my Oliver Bonas Ginny dress, picking up on the pink, green and yellows in the dress. The foil in the glitter is metallic, which complements the gold thread running through the dress.

I really love the fact you can customise a pair of earrings to match your personality or colour palette. If you’re a sunny kind of person, then there’s a gorgeous yellow glitter, or maybe rose gold, or indigo? Either way, you’ll find something that suits you perfectly. Me? I’ll take a pair in every colour, please.
