Skater dresses were something I wore on the regular as a young teen. I remember wearing an incredibly vivid orange number for my 14th birthday and the flashbacks haunt me still. I fell a little out of love with them not long after. After that I avoided them like the plague. That is until a Topshop personal shopper put me in this glittery number last year.
Some of you will already know how much I adore personal shopping experiences from my previous posts. If you’re new here, I love to go personal shopping at the beginning of each new SS or AW season. Topshop is my favourite place to do this because they are always hot on trend.
As soon as I tried on this metallic skater dress I fell in love. The skater dress style is inspired by figure skaters, and how their dresses twirl as they spin on the ice. The cut slims the top half of your body and hides the hips to provide the perfect hourglass figure.
Boots – Primark
Coat – iCandy Clothing
Necklace – Emporium
Earrings – Topshop
This dress is a bit of a show-stopper and I love it for the Christmas period, but you can totally get away with it in summer for festivals too.
With this dress, it’s go glitz or go home. I paired it with my super cheap, super comfortable metallic Chelsea boots from Primark. I styled it with a black clutch with a hit of silver glitter running subtly through it. To accessorise I had a bit of fun with my new Topshop earrings and my drop choker I picked up super cheap in the sale.
For me, this is a safe outfit. The dress is comfortable and stretchy, so you don’t ever feel bloated or uncomfortable, and the lining stops it being itchy too. The balloon sleeves let your arms breathe and you don’t feel like your clothes are sticking to you at the sweaty Christmas party.
Topshop sparkly skater dress gets 10/10 from me.
