Craft Gin Club: March’s Elderflower, Chamomile and Lemon Verbena Gin

AD – this blog post features press samples – all views are my own

When was the last time you sat down with your mum and poured her a drink, said ‘cheers’ and had an actual conversation?

This month the Craft Gin Club sent me their March box, featuring a limited edition bottle of gin to share with mum.

Craft Gin Club’s gin of the month for March is the Ludlow Elderflower, Chamomile and Lemon Verbena gin. This gin is perfect for the beginning of spring, due to its freshness, with a hint of citrus and florals. Elderflower is a flavour I usually add as a mixer, in the form of either syrup, or juice, so it’s amazing that the flavour has been added into this gorgeously fragranced gin.

Speaking of syrup, there’s a wonderful ‘Spring Sling’ syrup included in the box to sweeten your cocktails with!

Also in the box was a range of mixers and treats to enhance the gin. Our Daelmans Caramel Stroopwafels got a little crushed in the post, but the Lily O’Brien chocolates and Brown Bag rosemary and seasalt crisps made up for the loss! The box of four chocolatey treats didn’t last long at all!

For our tipple, I mixed the Ludlow gin with a Buzbee’s Premium passion fruit tonic water – which was sweetened with honey and tasted delicious with the seasonal flavours. There was also the option of the botanical tonic water, but mum and I both prefer something a little sweeter. I’m using my leopard print iridescent flutes from Sainsbury’s for this cocktail!

Not a fan of tonic? Don’t worry! There’s also a Flawsome! Pressed wonky fruit sparkling water with apples and rhubarb. This reminds me of my childhood when mum would always make rhubarb crumble from the patch in our garden!

The last bottle in the box is the Turner and Hardy spiced tomato mix, which would be great for a gin bloody mary.

To garnish, there is a bag of dried grapefruit and pink peppercorns to add a pop of colour into your cocktail.

Mum and I poured one measure of gin into a flute, with some dried grapefruit. I added the passionfruit tonic water, topped with lemonade and a dash of syrup.

There are tonnes of amazing cocktail recipes in this months Ginned magazine. Their cocktail of the month is the Spring Sling!

This features a double gin, 15ml of the Spring Sling syrup, 25ml of lemon juice topped with the Flawsome! Pressed sparkling water with a sprig of rosemary to garnish.

Another stunning cocktail to create at home is the Spring Spritz. Add a double measure of gin to the glass, followed by 10ml of elderflower cordial. Then top the glass with a sparkling wine and dash of soda, topping with mint, lemon and cucumber.

If mixology doesn’t take your fancy, why not try a spot of baking? Eloise Bakes has published a Lemon Curd and Elderflower Cupcakes recipe. They look absolutely incredible and I will 100% be trying these out for myself with mum.
