10 pink & red outfits to inspire your Valentine’s date night look

With Valentine’s Day around the corner everyone is looking for the perfect fit for the big night. Whether you’re dressing up for yourself, for your Galentine’s day with your girlfriends or date night with your partner, you’re sure to be searching for an outfit that will make you feel amazing on February 14.

As the most romantic day of the year approaches, I’ve pulled together some of my favourite pink and red looks from over the years to help inspire your date night fit – from figure-hugging dresses and romantic silhouettes, to statement jumpsuits that bring sass and drama, I hope there’s something for everyone to fall head over heels for in this round up.

Some of these pieces are still available to purchase (and many are on sale), while others are old stock, but could still be available on secondhand selling sites like Depop, eBay and Vinted, if you do happen to find yourself smitten.

Here are my top 10 Valentine’s inspired looks for 2023, and where I bought them:

Karen Millen Feather Jumpsuit

This Feather One Shoulder Jumpsuit from Karen Millen is one of those pieces that really knows how to make an entrance. This show-stopping colour-pop jumpsuit comes framed with flamboyant feathers along the neckline, and is the ultimate party piece that’s made for Valentine’s day. The one-shoulder number nips in at the waist before flowing down to a flattering wide-leg fit, and is best styled with heels for a bit of height.

I styled the standout statement jumpsuit with disco ball earrings from Sour Cherry and pink New Look hoops, finished off with some black satin heels from Primark. Originally £279, but is currently down to £140 in the sale.

Boohoo Wrap Midi

This Boohoo off the shoulder wrap midi dress really has me feeling myself. The jersey number has been designed to ‘flatter every body type and make you feel beautiful’ without breaking the bank, currently down to £15 from £20. The dress can be worn on or off the shoulder, and has a plunging but not-too-revealing neckline, complete with a tie waist that can be styled in a multitude of ways. And if you love the style, the dress comes in a whopping 10 other colours including neutrals like cream and black, as well as brights like orange and lilac.

For this outfit the Boohoo dress has been paired with some Boohoo feather heels, a Rommy headband and a heart-shaped bag from MissPap that was MADE for February 14.

Oliver Bonas Ginny Dress

This Oliver Bonas ‘Ginny’ dress is super easy to go from day time chills to evening cocktails and it’s colour and print lends itself really well to Valentine’s celebrations. Decorated with pink blooms and an almost-animal print, this statement piece does all of the talking. It features a shirred back, tie waist, button front and flattering square neckline with floaty angel sleeves for a feminine finish.

I wore the dress with white leather trainers from Tu at Sainsbury’s and accessoried with a neutral macrame bag from Primark, and the red scrunchie headband from Rommy, as seen above.

Girls on Film Velvet dress

That Rommy headband is back and if you haven’t noticed, it’s my favourite accessory to finish off any outfit. This time, I paired it with a velvet dress from Little Mistress’ Girls on Film which I initially bought for Christmas, but love how it doubles as an LVD (little velvet dress) for Valentine’s. In a stunning shade of scarlet, puff shoulders and blouson sleeves bring the drama while a bow detail cut-out back adds extra sass. Originally £26, I thought snagging it for £13 was a bargain, but there are still limited sizes available for just £6.

I wore the dress with some gold glittered tights that cost £9 from Accessorize, black Dr Marten boots and a pair of earrings from Staffordshire independent Cloud and Clay.

Saturday by Megan Ellaby

Pink AND leopard print in one outfit? Yes, please! This hot pink trench was originally from Topshop but I paid just £4 for it in the charity shop. I paired it with my Saturday by Megan Ellaby Hazel top and a patterned beret from Primark, which cost me £6, tying in the pink and red elements of the look. Jeans definitely felt like the best option to balance this look, with my comfortable Dr Martens that I wear with almost everything, as well as a black camera bag from Primark that’s perfect for fitting all of the essentials in.

If this isn’t dopamine dressing for February forecasts, I don’t know what is.

Lula Floral Midi

The date-worthy Roses are Red ‘midaxi’ dress, from Lula Boutique, was just £16.80 and has been worn time and time again for brunches, date nights and various other events. It really is one of those versatile pieces that fits in anywhere. With shirred sleeves, a tiered skirt and high neck, it’s a super flattering number, and it’s length means it can be styled with either flats or heels, making it suitable for even more occasions.

To accessorise, I opted for vintage Wrangler leather boots from Sparrowhawk Vintage, a cream bag from Dorothy Perkins, a black belt – also from Lula – and pink fedora with feather detail.

Sugar and Spice Mini

Pink, polka dot, puff sleeves – what’s not to love? The pink ‘sugar and spice dress’ is also an old Lula purchase but it always finds itself being pulled out of the wardrobe this time of year. Fully lined with a tiered skirt, textured polka dots embroidery and a vintage-style ruffle neck, it’s a pretty dreamy number. Puffed sleeves with an elastic cuff make it really comfortable to wear, especially on warmer days, but paired with tights and a jumper, you can update it for winter for a layered look, as well.

Boohoo Floral Rouched Maxi

If you want a date night dress that’s too cute to boot that doubles as a summer wedding guest outfit, this mesh floral rouched maxi from Boohoo is your number one. Comprised of a sheer fabric with hundreds of tiny holes, it’s soft, sexy, and a real statement maker with its off the shoulder bardot sleeves. Perfect for nights out with the girls or Saturday night date night, it accentuates curves and is super forgiving in those self-conscious areas. It can also be worn as a midi with some adjusting, but what’s more is that it’s currently down to £22.50 instead of £30 – it’s a real steal.

I once again wore the red feather heels for this look, which are now £13 in the Boohoo sale.

A whole outfit under £10

All old sale pieces from Primark, these are well worth a hunt on Vinted or Depop, because they really are the ultimate Valentine’s pieces. This dress is the dreamiest cut, with an arched waistline and a dipped hem, it’s got a really beautiful fluidity and it only cost me £3 at the time. The dusky pink dress features a vintage-style floral print in pinks and reds, which pair really well with these red suedette heeled boots, which were also £3. These have a pretty low heel making them comfortable for everyday wear, and have survived years of completing outfits.

Finally, this pink saddle bag was also £3, and while it doesn’t fit a great deal in, the colour palette works so well together. Obsessed.

Sainsbury’s Lip Blouse

Those red boots are back again – and this photo is from 2018, so that’ll give you an indication of how long I’ve had them. In fact, I still have every piece from this look in my wardrobe, but the lip print shirt in particular is always a standout Valentine’s piece, originally from TU Clothing at Sainsbury’s. I love how the black polka dot contrasts the white spots on the wide leg Primark culottes, and the red bakerboy cap brings all the colours together. This is an outfit I’ve been head over heels for for half a decade, and you can bett I’ll be bringing it back out for 2023, too.
