43 Valentine’s gift ideas for her that are better than a petrol station bouquet

I’m such a sucker for Valentine’s Day. I won’t hear a word from the negative Nancy’s about it being a big commercial scheme, and how you shouldn’t need a day to celebrate love. Gifting is my love language, and if there’s a day dedicated to buying a present for the person you adore the most, then I’m absolutely here for it.

As someone who considers themselves to be a bit of a gifting expert (I am frequently complimented on my thoughtfulness, presentation and sentiment) I’ve done the honours of spending hours trawling the internet for what I consider to be definitively the best Valentine’s gifts for her for 2024.

With products to suit every budget from £4 to £230, I’ve curated a gift edit to cater to every taste and preference, from luxurious fragrances and stylish accessories to personalised stationery and cosy home essentials.

Some of those on my list are products I already own, use, love and know you (or your recipient) will too, while others are firmly on my saved list.

Whether you’re looking for a grand romantic gesture or a meaningful token of appreciation, each item has been carefully chosen to make this Valentine’s Day truly special. Here are more than 40 ideas to help you find her the perfect gift this February 14 – because believe it or not, you can do better than a petrol station bouquet.

Elizabeth Scarlett Heart Embroidered Pouch – £32

I’ve long admired Elizabeth Scarlett’s gorgeous embroidered pouches. Made with 100 per cent cotton velvet, this cherry red pouch is adorned with emblazoned hearts in a glittering gold thread which makes it perfect for the season of love. Measuring 30cm by 20cm, it’s a great size to use for makeup brushes, or for storing things like scrunchies. It would also make a great book pouch for those who don’t like to fling their paperbacks into their bag.

Paco Rabanne Pure XS for Her 50ml – £75

Pure XS for Her by Paco Rabanne is a playful and seductive fragrance that celebrates the sensuality of vanilla. Launched in 2018, this amber floral aroma opens with an unexpected but delightful burst of savoury popcorn and heady ylang-ylang. This perfume evolves into a mouthwatering combination of hot vanilla, nutty sandalwood, and ambrette seeds – the result being a fragrance that is both gourmand and glamorous, making it the ultimate choice for those who crave a hint of sweetness in their sultry, signature scent. Read more about my favourite vanilla-based fragrances here.

Refy Signature Makeup Bag – £40

Practical without compromising on style, this is the makeup bag to rival all makeup bags. The REFY Signature Bag has been cut from a bespoke, patent-pending fabric that instantly wipes clean to remove makeup and keep it looking brand new. Though it looks like cotton canvas with a slouchy yet structured feel, this sleek and stylish makeup bag has fast become my go-to for my everyday essentials. Protected inside and out, no longer will you have to worry about foundation stains or mascara marks – the price tag is worth that alone.

REFY

Elemis Rose Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm – from £13

The Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm is known for its stellar reputation and cult following, and has been a staple of my skincare routine for a number of years now, revolutionising my nightly regime and makes makeup removal much less of a chore. But if you fancy a bit of a change, the Rose version of this iconic skincare saviour is a fun alternative to a bouquet. It’s the same formula as the best-loved cleanser, but infused with English Rose Oleo Extract for ‘petal-soft’ skin and an at-home spa experience.

Papier Personalised Chequered Hearts Hardback Notebook – £23

There’s no such thing as too many Papier notebooks. Anyone that knows me is aware of my obsession to Papier stationery (my secret Santa even got me a planner for Christmas), and this Chequered Hearts design is absolutely dreamy and so on the money for Valentine’s. There are options for lined, plain or dotted pages, with the ability to personalise the cover with the recipient’s name, too. The paper has such a nice weight to it with a silky finish – perfect for planning date nights, travel plans or even wedding plans.

Gluggle Jug 1.2L – £40

My pink Gluggle jug is truly one of my most prized possessions. Best known for their iconic ‘gluggling’ sound when liquid is poured at three quarters full, these novelty vases have brought entertainment to households for a century and a half since their inception in the 1860s. A fun alternative to a vase, ornament, water jug or even a stationery holder. Fenwick has them in so many different colours, but pink is definitely my favourite for February 14.

Uniqlo Round Mini Shoulder Bag – £14.90

I’m addicted to Uniqlo’s crossbody bags, along with basically the rest of Instagram and pretty much the whole world, to be honest, having built up a small army of their must-have Mary Poppins bags. And new for Spring 2024, the Japanese casual fashion retailer has released some stunning new pastel colourways, including lilac, the season’s hottest new shade sky blue, and a baby pink that’s next on my to-buy list. The pastel palette is perfect for injecting some colour into your wardrobe, not to mention affordable – unless you’re like me and want one of every colour.

Uniqlo

Vivienne Westwood Freda Earrings – £160

If you’re buying for a jewellery enthusiast, these Vivienne Westwood Freda Earrings are such a beautiful choice, not just for their edgy design, but for the sentiment behind them, too. The Freda earrings are 100% brass and plated with gold tones, featuring a unique claw-shaped design that draws inspiration from a lobster – and anyone who has watched Friends will know the story behind ‘he’s her lobster’. The claws each hold a glass-based pearl that dangles from the hinged hoop. Not only is a pearl the birthstone for June babies, but in Greek mythology, pearls are said to be the tears of joy shed by Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Could it be any more romantic? I’ll let you take credit for the reasoning behind your purchase….

Twisted Rebel Designs Music Print – from £9

I have so many of Twisted Rebel Designs’ music inspired prints dotted around my room, office and any flat surface I can hang one, really – and I’m forever buying them as gifts for other people, too. Starting from £9, the Hull-based indie business has dozens of indie and pop music themed artwork in the funkiest designs. You could choose lyrics from a song that reminds you of your relationship, or a print of your favourite band (I adore their Tarot range and recently gifted The Charmers Kings of Leon print to my friend who had one of their tracks as their first dance song). One of my favourites for Valentine’s is this Paolo Nutini print of Last Request, and you can choose from A5 to A1, and can pay extra to have it framed, too.

Adidas Handball Spezial bright red/clear pink – £85

Colourful trainers are a trend after my own heart and these Handball Spezials I received for Christmas are a V-day vibe and a half. The bright red, clear pink and gum sole combo channels an always-on retro vibe – and when you order directly from Adidas, you can even get them personalised. I got Jake a pair of personalised trainers for his birthday last year and they were a real hit. You get seven characters, but initials or six-digit dates are a great way to thoughtfully customise these must-have shoes.

Vinscents Dark Honey and Tobacco Classic Candle – £27

For those cosy nights cuddled up on the sofa, a candle is the ideal way to add to the atmosphere while filling your home with fragrance. I’ve had a couple of candles from small business Vinscents recently, including their Dark Honey and Tobacco Classic Candle, as well as their Creed-inspired scent, and they not only smell incredible, but they look fantastic, too. This one has around 85 hours of burn time, and the glass container is such a stunning black and white design that effortlessly slots into any home.

Vinscents

Jellycat Amuseable Croissant – from £18

Paris is the city of love and what’s more loveable than a cute Croissant teddy? Jellycat has got some super sweet styles in for Valentine’s Day, from Pink Hearts to Love Locks, but there’s something about this pastry-inspired plush that I just adore. Not only that, but it also fills the universal masculine urge to buy a stuffed toy in February without it being on a cheap bear from Home Bargains. You’re all welcome.

Jellycat

 Ay That’s Nice Poppy Scrunch – £14

Know a scrunchie addict? Say hello to the Poppy Oversized Scrunchie from Ay That’s Nice, a Staffordshire-based brand who make gorgeous, small batch accessories from deadstock fabrics. Priced at £14, it was basically born for Valentine’s day and is a great way to lean into that ‘pop of red’ trend all over Instagram right now. The red version of this signature scrunch adds a pop of colour and texture to any look, but there is also currently a black, metallic and leopard print version too – ticking all those 2024 trend boxes in a fun and sustainable way. Whether you wear it to secure a pony, slick back bun or add it to your wrist, they’re really secure and suitable for all hair types.

If you know someone who loves to document those spontaneous moments, an Instax Mini 12 Camera is the ultimate gift for capturing memories. As well as Blossom Pink, it also comes in Pastel Blue, Mint Green, Lilac Purple and Clay White and couldn’t be simpler to use. The Mini 12 is packed with new features including a carefully positioned selfie mirror, automatic flash control and close up mode with adjustable viewfinder and automatic exposure. Not only will you have your physical print within five seconds of clicking, but there’s also the INSTAXUP app where you can scan in your prints to create shareable, digital snaps that you can fine-tune, tag and save.

Tort Heart Top Handle Acrylic Evening Bag – £88

Firmly on my wishlist as a tortoise shell-loving gal is this unreal bag from Anthropologie. I fell head over heels as soon as I saw it and it’s heart-shaped design is made for date nights. This statement purse is one that does all the talking, and while it may not end up being entirely practical, it’s definitely a conversation starter and will look amazing on Instagram.

Anthropologie

Emma Bridgewater Pink Hearts Mug – £25

I’ve been a small-scale collector of Emma Bridgewater for a couple of years, and my favourite pattern by far is the hearts. The pink and red design is inspired by confetti lying on the ground after a wedding, making it one of the brand’s most romantic patterns. Described by Emma Bridgewater as “the perfect way to say ‘I love you’, ‘Be my Valentine’, or ‘Marry me’”, their half pint mugs cost £25 each, or £26 plus £1 per letter should you want to get it personalised with a name and message. For tea and coffee-bellies, why not fill this mug with luxe brew bags or coffee sachets, as well as their favourite confectionary treats to enjoy on February 14.

Anya Parker James Zero Waste Bows – £16

Want in on the bow trend in a fashionable, versatile and sustainable way? AnyaParkerJames’s zero waste hair bow clips are made from deadstock bra elastic off cuts which come in mini, midi and long lengths complete with a crocodile clip base so they can be attached to almost anything to inject a bit of personality and style. Lily Charmed Gold Plated Oval Carabiner Charm Collector Necklace – £75

An influencer favourite, Lily Charmed are an independent charm boutique who specialise in effortlessly wearable jewellery you’ll want to wear day in, day out – I’ve not actually taken my  Gold Plated Oval Carabiner Charm Collector Necklace off since I received it earlier this month. The necklace features a celestial-inspired carabiner with a screw mechanism that opens to allow you to slide on and off as many charms as you like. You can create a unique one-off piece of jewellery through mix and matching charms, wearing your favourite family ‘heirloom’ pieces or up-cycling old charms in your jewellery box. I wear the cowboy boot charm from Lily Charmed on mine, but I’m already itching to add more to my collection. Offering infinite ways to style, this necklace is sure to become a much loved investment piece that you will never tire of and can really add some of your identity to.

NEOM Happiness Scented Candle Travel – £19

Shakespeare said ‘Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?’ Well, yes, actually because that’s exactly what this NEOM Happiness Scented Candle smells like. The uplifting fragrance blends 10 essential oils including white neroli, woody and powdery mimosa and zingy lemon and has been expertly crafted to help boost your mood. Hand poured using 100% naturally derived wax this feelgood fragrance is such a sweet way to say ‘you make me happy’.

NEOM

Amazon Cotton Terry Lined Athletic Sports Crew Socks – £7.49

I know this is a bit of a rogue one, but trust me. I bought these socks on Amazon back in November and I think they’re potentially the best pair of socks I’ve ever owned. Soft, cosy, comfortable, breathable and durable, they’re fantastic for pairing with loafers for a fun splash of colour and they wash remarkably well. I’m going to treat myself to the grey ones soon because I think these will be lush for styling with skirts.

Oliver Bonas Raya Peach Glass Champagne Saucers Set of Four – £29.50

This set of four Champagne saucers boasts a perfect blend of sophistication and romance, featuring a solid-coloured peach stem that nods to this year’s Pantone colour of the year ‘Peach Fuzz’. The subtle ribbed pattern on the glasses is really pretty and elegant, making them a delightful choice whether you’re celebrating with a special someone or hosting a gathering with friends. Pair them with a bottle of fizz and get ready to toast.

Damson Madder Candice Leopard Blouse – £75

One for the leopard print lovers is this Candice Blouse from Damson Madder, which has become a social media sensation and repeated sell-out. Made from 100 per cent organic cotton with black velvet trim on its dramatically oversized collar and tie up sleeves, it’s one of those pieces where it pays to focus on the attention to detail. Whether you pair with denim for the classic ‘jeans and a nice top’ combo, or get a little more inventive with your layering, it’s a wardrobe essential for animal print fans.

Lush With Love Gift Set – £22

There’s nothing nicer than coming home to a freshly drawn hot bath after a long day – except for when there are Lush products involved that elevate your experience to whole new heights. This year, the brand’s V-day range has a whopping 34 products in total – 31 of which are brand new for 2024 – and is inspired by all the different ways in which people show love – whether it’s a grand gesture, a whimsical gift or even just offering someone a small kindness, like running them a bath. The With Love gift set is priced at an affordable £22 and features two year-round favourites in the Tisty Tosty bath bomb and pampering Ro’s Argan body conditioner, alongside the limited edition rose and passion fruit shower gel, Passion.

River Island Red Pleated Wide Leg Trousers – £40

Let me tell you why these are the best pair of trousers I’ve ever bought. Not only are they an incredible shade of red, a beautiful wide leg and smart enough for work or play – but they have a secret elasticated waist at the back which makes them so comfortable and ideal if, like me, your weight can fluctuate throughout the year. The quality is gorgeous and I even have the co-ordinating blazer for a serious power outfit. These River Island trousers really do make you feel unstoppable.

17 Extreme Extension Lengthening Mascara – £4

I’m yet to find a mascara better than this obscenely affordable option from 17. Cosmetics. The budget-friendly beauty buy delivers striking results with a thin comb-like brush and ecofibre formula that coats each lash from root to tip, leaving them looking longer and flutterier than ever. It doesn’t clump, layers really well, and doesn’t go hard on your lashes, instead leaving them feeling quite nourished. I always stock up on this as it continuously sells out online – but on the off chance it’s available, you can find it here.

Oliver Bonas Leopard White Ceramic Ring Holder – £12.50

After Jake and I got engaged, a ring holder was one of the most useful gifts I received from my brother and sister-in-law for keeping my ring safe when I was taking a bath, washing the dishes or any other activity where I might be likely to misplace it. This little leopard ring holder from Oliver Bonas is so charming, and is as pretty as it is practical. If you’re planning on proposing this Valentine’s, or recently have, this is a fantastic little extra that will earn you major brownie points.

Rommy Headband Ruby Red – £16

From Manchester-based independent fashion brand, Rommy, this Ruby Red headband is one of my most worn accessories. You’ll have no doubt seen it all over my Instagram over the past few years as I wear it all the time. Made from 100 per cent satin – a vegan alternative to silk – this ruffle headband is the ultimate accessory for finishing off an outfit. Padded behind the ears for extra comfort, you can wear it all day and all night without it snagging or causing kinks in the hair. And for bonus points, the ruby is the birthstone of July babies and signifies love.

Made by Mitchell Blursh Strawberry Cream – £14

Launched in 2020, Made by Mitchell is a cosmetics brand headed up by British MUA, TV personality, former X Factor contestant and influencer Mitchell Halliday. And if your TikTok For You page is anything like mine, you’ll already be familiar with their chartreuse packaging and outlandish colour range. One of their most viral, well-known products is the innovative and cruelty-free Blursh, a cream formula that dries down to a powder finish. Of the shades I’ve tried, the peachy, coraly shades have been my favourite to use, while Strawberry Cream has been a surprising favourite. A milkshake pink blusher was never on my wish list, but I find myself reaching for this more often than I care to admit.

Warner’s Rhubarb Gin 70cl – £35.99

Warner’s multi-award winning rhubarb gin is said to be the world’s first, made using one third rhubarb juice to give it its naturally pink hue. Suitable for vegans, Warner’s suggests serving with a Mediterranean tonic or a ginger ale, but it’s also gorgeously tart neat with a slice of citrus. The distillery said: “Originally cooked up using rhubarb reportedly from Queen Victoria’s crop, it was meant to be a limited edition, until we realised how stonking it was. Officially the world’s first rhubarb gin. Which is both a blessing and a curse, because it inspired a whole heap of corner-cutting copycats. Bleurgh.” If you’re looking for a way to celebrate this Valentine’s this fruity tipple makes a refreshing alternative to fizz.

Lindt Lindor Strawberries & Cream Chocolate Truffles – £4.50

Sometimes you just can’t beat a classic – and this is one of those times. These rich, velvety chocolates are to die for with a white chocolate and strawberry blend that’s like Valentine’s Day in a bite. Pair a box of these bad boys with a bottle of fizz, some fresh strawberries and a bunch of flowers and you’ve got yourself a guaranteed win. A little predictable, perhaps, but sometimes, tried and true is just as good as a surprise.

I convince almost everyone I meet that they need one of these New Look Midaxi skirts. They’re so versatile and can be dressed up and down for any occasion, plus they have a thick waistband and elasticated waist which makes them not only comfortable to wear all day but incredibly flattering too. And the best news? Some of the colours, like this red one, are now in the sale.

Pink Zendaya Midi Dress – £29

Another from the wardrobe of yours truly is this insane Nobody’s Child dress. I fell in love with this pretty-in-pink number when I saw my friend wear it in summer, and Jake treated me to it for Christmas. Originally £99, it’s now a steal at £29 and is one of those pieces you can wear to a spring or summer wedding, or more casually to get your money’s worth. It’s made from plush hot pink fabric that drapes like a dream, with volume-packed sleeves and an open back that ties with a bow. What’s not to love.

Nobody’s Child

Laura Mercier Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick in Fire – £24.50

This has been my go-to red lip for five years after doing a beauty masterclass with TikTok favourite Sammi Jefcoate. The ultra-matte lipstick gives the best colour payoff, is comfortable to wear, and is such a vibrant and flattering shade. I’m yet to find one I love more, and it lasts so well. I’m now incredibly tempted to pick up a nude and see if it could give my ride or die Velvet Teddy a run for its money.

Pandora Sun and Moon ring set – £105

For the Swifties, look no further than this Sun and Moon ring stack that sold out in summer, but is finally back in stock. The set went viral a few months back after Taylor Swift fans linked the accessories to the lyrics of Midnight Rain, which say “he was sunshine, I was midnight rain”. The Celestial Blue Sparkling Moon Ring is also available on its own for £45, with the Celestial Sparkling Sun Ring being £60 – or you can bag the pair for £105 in this neat little set.

Pandora

Replica By The Fireplace – £58

Warm and cosy, this By The Fireplace perfume from Maison Margiela is one of those I’ve been dying to try, but haven’t committed to purchasing yet. Reminiscent of a crackling wood fire on a winter morning, this comforting scent stars a warm heart of chestnut and woody accords mixed with sweet notes of vanilla and red berries. Distinctive, sweet and spicy, it’s sure to be an addictive and alluring fragrance.

SBRI Personalised Leather Bookmark – £10.50

Coming in at £10.50, they can be personalised with initials and can be placed just-so in your book to help you pick up exactly where you left off. Choose from eight colourways and have up to six characters on the top – the ideal gift for book lovers.

Bloom and Wild The Suzanne bouquet – £32

Flowers. Need I say more? Bloom and Wild have been my trusted brand for sending flowers to friends and family for a whole host of occasions for years. This particular bouquet is my top pick for Valentine’s Day, featuring 17 stems including roses, tulips, carnations, kangaroo paw and chasmanthium grass. The red tulips are grown in the UK and come with the bulbs attached, which can be stored and replanted for next spring. The gift that keeps on giving. And if you sign up using my referral link, you can get £10 off your first bunch, making these ones only £22.

Marks and Spencer Glass Ribbed Vase – £12.50

If you’re buying blooms, a vase could be a great gift to go with them – because who wants to put a beautiful bouquet in a pint glass? This one from M&S is elegant and can fit in with a range of styles. The delicate ribbed texture is perfect for adding a centrepiece to your dinner table, or to sit on a windowsill or side table – and it looks far more premium than it’s £12.50 price tag would suggest.

CEWE Retro Prints – from £12.99

I’ve always loved Polaroid style prints, and CEWE’s retro prints are such a gorgeous way to turn your digital images into a physical Polaroid-esque print. They start at £12.99 for a box of 16, going up to £20.99 for a box of 32, working out around 66p per print. The high-quality prints are printed onto a thick 300g/m² paper, and can be printed with a gloss or matte finish. All of the prints come packaged in a gift box with three designs to choose from. The ‘love’ box is complete with a pink and red heart and works wonderfully for Valentine’s. For an unmistakable way to say ‘I love you’, you can design your Valentine’s gift with CEWE online here.

What a way to say ‘you’re my perfect match’, right? The ultimate accompaniment to a candle, this set of matches from Archivist Letterpress are not just functional for lighting all your home fragrance, but also look lush on display. My favourite is the Chasing Big Cats version, designed by Charlotte Farmer, but there are plenty of others to choose from a Cotswold Trading, too.
