I literally live for summer fashion. Tea dresses, denim shorts and floaty skirts – come at me.
After looking at trends, both timeless and fast fashion, I’ve discovered these six summer essentials that are wardrobe must-haves for SS18.
Denim jacket
I’ve regretfully packed up the teddy bear coat and cracked out the old vintage Levi’s. Whether you go cropped, oversized, coloured or plain old original, you need a denim jacket in your life.
This one is from the Urban Renewal section in Urban Outfitters, so was pretty pricey. However, if you know where to look, you can pick up an original Levi’s denim number for around £20. If you’re a Stokie reading this, head down to Sparrowhawk Vintage in Newcastle-under-Lyme because they’ve always got tonnes in. They also usually have reworked Levi’s shorts, too.
Maxi/midi dress
Always a summer staple. Longer dresses are perfect for all-day wear. They can be dressed up or dressed down, meaning they’re great for when a day at the beach turns into dinner overlooking the harbour.
This mustard number is from Boohoo, and you can read all about it here.
Culottes
These mega-retro wide leg trousers are perfect for summer. They’re light, airy and pretty much feel like you’re wearing a skirt. You can rock them with literally anything too.
These polka-dot beauties were actually from Primark, who are slaying the summer fashion game this season. They have so many different patterned culottes in at the moment so definitely check them out. You can check out my OOTD post featuring them here.
Straw bags
I don’t know an Instagrammer or blogger without a straw bag right now. Literally every other fashion post has one of these woven wonders. I’m a huge fan of the trend, but wanted to do it a little differently.
This tiny straw rucksack is from New Look and is an adorable addition to your summer style posts. Pair it with a floppy straw hat for the ultimate combo.
Statement sunnies
Super skinny or cat-eye, coloured lenses or mirrored, no summer outfit is complete without a pair of sunglasses.
Here are some of my favourites for this year.
The skinny red sunnies are £8 from Sparrowhawk Vintage. I picked up the yellow geometric ones at Y Not Festival last year. Both other pairs were around the £2 mark and from Primark.
Circular bags
I think this may just be one I’m loving at the minute. I have seen a few circling (pardon the pun) on social media, particularly cute straw ones, but I’m really enjoying colourful ones!
I’m currently using this mustard and magenta bag from Accessorize (similar) and this £6 red number from Primark. They can either compliment an outfit or add a splash of colour to an otherwise monochrome get up, which is perfect for the summer months.
Oooh a denim jacket is definitely on my to buy list and I love that mustard bag! Might have to accidentally pop into town and get one! 💛

I plan to shake up my wardrobe this season and I totally agree with your wardrobe staples. Although I’m not sure I’m a fan of the straw bag! xxx
